Amateur Golf Week in Phuket June 17-23

The first international amateur golf week on Thailand’s premier holiday island of Phuket is to be held in June.

Playing Phuket’s three best courses, the Angsana Laguna Phuket Golf Masters will bring together amateur golfers from Asia-Pacific and further afield for six nights and five exotic days of golf, excursions, socialising, relaxation and a vast array of local dining options.

To be held from June 17-23, participants will stay at Angsana Laguna Phuket, a four-star beachfront hotel within Laguna Phuket, the island’s only fully-integrated beach and golf resort.

Laguna Phuket Golf Club, where one practice round and one tournament round will be played, is a five-minute shuttle ride from the hotel.

Last year the course, revamped in 2015, was named best golf course in Asia at the World Golf Awards in Portugal. It has been named twice as Thailand’s best course as well as Laguna Phuket being awarded Thailand’s best golf resort.

Cooled by breezes from the Andaman Sea on its doorstep, Laguna Phuket is a perfect base for golfers visiting the island who wish to experience everything Phuket has to offer.

Other tournament rounds will be played at Red Mountain, regarded as the most spectacular and one of the best courses in the kingdom, and Blue Canyon Lakes Course, a wonderful scenic layout renowned for its fast greens. Both are within 30 minutes’ drive from Laguna Phuket and within easy access of Phuket International Airport.

Organised by Asian Golf Services, a Phuket-based provider of golf tourism services throughout Asia, the Angsana Laguna Phuket Golf Masters is open to all amateurs with an official handicap of up to 40 for women and 30 for men. The event will be played under the rules or golf and local rules, which will be approved and published by the tournament committee.

Packages start from THB24,800 for non-golfers and from THB38,995 for golfers, who will enjoy six nights of accommodation at Angsana Laguna Phuket, daily breakfasts, four rounds of golf with caddie and cart, welcome reception and final gala dinner, airport and golf course transfers, all taxes, goodie bag, daily prizes and the chance to win lucky draw prizes valued up to USD30,000.

Non-golfers will receive accommodation, breakfasts, airport transfers, welcome reception and gala dinner and enjoy two guided sightseeing excursions and a half-day spa treatment at Angsana Spa.

After a welcome reception on Sunday June 17, a practice round will be played at Laguna Phuket the following day, followed by the first tournament round at Blue Canyon Lakes Course, a free day for excursions and relaxation (or an additional round of golf), a tournament round at Red Mountain and the final round and gala dinner at Laguna Phuket on Friday, June 22.

David Pettigrew is excited about the inaugural event, which he plans to be the first of other organised golf weeks in Phuket and elsewhere. He says rates are commissionable to registered travel agents, with special prices available for groups of 10 or more.

Laguna Golf Phuket’s director of golf, Paul Wilson, says the event will allow recreational golfers of all standards to experience the excitement of a friendly golf competition.

“In running the event across three unique golf courses, participants will be able to enjoy some of the best golf in Thailand.”
