Breast Care Project on the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 84th Birthday Anniversary

BDMS Southern Group (Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Phuket International Hospital and Dibuk Hospital) joins up with the Ministry of Interior’s Ladies Association and Provincial Red Cross Chapter of Phuket to kick off the “Breast Care Project on the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 84th Birthday Anniversary.

On 6 August 2016, Khun Wassana Tipayapongtada, Chairwomen to the Ministry of Interior’s Ladies Association and Provincial Red Cross Chapter of Phuket, presided over the launching ceremony of the “Breast Care Project on the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 84th Birthday Anniversary. The project is fruit of strong collaboration between the local hospitals under BDMS Southern Group, and the Ministry of Interior’s Ladies Association and Provincial Red Cross Chapter of Phuket. High-level hospital management, distinguished local authorities, local businesses and members of the press and media all gathered to witness the event at King Carl Gustaf’s Conference Room, 3rd floor, Bangkok Hospital Phuket.
Khun Wassana Tipayapongtada gave the background of this move, saying that breast cancer is currently number one cancer among Thai women, and that its actual causes remain unclear. There are no preventive vaccines at present. New breast cancer patients amount to as many as 15,000 each year in Thailand –1 out of 25 Thai women will have breast cancer. And the trend is on the rise each year. In order to carry out such philanthropic enterprise in honor of the Queen’s Birthday Anniversary, the Ministry of Interior’s Ladies Association and Provincial Red Cross Chapter in Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi and Ranong get to join forces with BDMS Southern Group to officially kick off the “Breast Care Project on the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 84th Birthday Anniversary”. It is believed to allow local people to access a complete body of knowledge and better understanding about Breast Self Examination (BSE). Active learning classes & workshops will be held for women in Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi and Ranong, throwing light on ABCs about breast cancer, risk factors. A team of doctors and nurses from BDMS Southern Group will teach them to do BSE the correct ways. The goal is projected at 8,400 participants in total over a period of 1 year from 12 August 2016 – 11 August 2017.

Dr. Lalita Kongseeha, Deputy Hospital Director, Bangkok Hospital Phuket, noted that BDMS Southern Group (Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Phuket International Hospital and Dibuk Hospital) was staffed with highly qualified medical professionals on top of state-of-the-art technology. This is considered a momentous commitment for all the medical team to give a guiding light for all those at risk. The group will further collaborate with the Provincial Red Cross Chapter of Phuket to provide Digital Mammogram for 84 of them who have limited means to access medical services. Forty-two of them will have the advanced breast cancer screening at Bangkok Hospital Phuket, while the other half will have it done at Phuket International Hospital.

Should any abnormal signs arise following Digital Mammogram, the Breast Cancer Care and Research Fund of Bangkok Hospital Phuket will help and lend financial support for further stages of tissue biopsy and pathology.
