Phuket promotes gastronomy for the Green Season
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office in collaboration with Phuket province and Phuket City Municipality will organise the “Phuket Tasty Fest 2018” to encourage tourism during the Green Season, as well as focus on Phuket as the “Creative City of Gastronomy”, which is the first city in Thailand and ASEAN as well as 1 of only 18 cities worldwide that has been accredited by UNESCO. The “Phuket Tasty Fest 2018” will be held on 1-2 September, 2018, at the 72nd Anniversary Queen Sirikit Park– also known as Dragon Park on Thalang road, Phuket.
.
Mr. Noppadon Pakprot, Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing, TAT, said that in 2018, TAT has a policy to increase the spending of tourists in Thailand by at least 8%. This will be achieved through the strategy of promoting tourism products under “local food” in which Phuket province has an identity and diversity in food culture; e.g., local food, seafood, Halal food, vegetarian food, etc. Various activities will be arranged through the cooperation with tour companies to introduce local food tours, which visit food resources, to tourists to know about food preparation methods. Also, food-related events will be organised; such as, the Laguna Phuket Food and Music Festival, Phuket Lobster Festival, Andaman Halal Fest for Tourism, and the Vegetarian Festival, as well as the Back to the Past of Phuket Chinese New Year, which will be organised by Phuket City Municipality to introduce local food at the same time as the various events.
.
Mr. Noppadon added that TAT has received the cooperation from the Provincial Health Office to promote and raise the standards of Southern Thai food under the campaign “Clean Food Good Taste” together with the product standards of Phuket under the project “Phuket Brand” to raise the level of local food to be of an international standard. This has received a positive response from TAT’s partners like the Wongnai website and Michelin Guide Book.
.
In the event, there will be various zones with food stalls; e.g., local food, international food, seafood, desserts, Halal food, Southern Thai food, and DIY food-related activities for tourists. TAT has also invited the Government Savings Bank to be a co-organiser to increase the channel of payment via a QR Code instead of cash and arranged the special activity to facilitate tourists. A new innovation for food services will be introduced and promoted through an application to food shops to use containers that are environmentally-friendly and reduce the use of foam and plastic. Also, this campaign will have tourists bring a food box or container from home for them to join in loving the world … see .. share .. food demonstrations by Chef Pom, a renowned Thai Iron Chef; Chef Teng Nung, a dessert chef, and Chef Aek Charttrakul, World Food Champion, who are also joining to show their food preparation skills in creating innovative dishes that should be tried at least once … see how mocktails are prepared by a champion bartender of Thailand … enjoy watching the exciting performance by the Sincharoen Brothers, and contemporary music by the Petcharat team of the TV show ‘Thailand’s Got Talent’ … and there’s prize draws of air tickets, accommodation packages, mobile phones, plus much more. Come and have fun and enjoy deliciousness at the “Phuket Tasty Fest 2018” on 1-2 September, 2018.
