EXECUTIVE CHEF AT X2 CHIANG MAI RIVERSIDE WINS IRON CHEF THAILAND CHALLENGE, HOSTS EXCLUSIVE DINNER TO SHOWCASE WINNING MENU

Chiang Mai, Thailand, 16 May 2018 – X2 Chiang Mai Riverside Resort’s Oxygen Dining Room will host a one-night special event on Saturday, 19 May to celebrate its executive chef, Alexandre Demard’s recent victory as a challenger on the hit television show, Iron Chef Thailand.

On 5 May, Chef Alex went head-to-head with reigning Iron Chef, Thanunya “Gai” Kaikaew, to prepare five inventive dishes using key ingredients from around the world, including fresh Alaskan crab, pigeon, Waygu beef and durian. In a blind taste test of the finished dishes, Chef Alex was named the winner of the challenge.

In honour of his culinary achievement, Oxygen Dining Room is hosting an exclusive 8-course dinner to showcase the winning menu and give discerning diners the opportunity to experience Chef Alex’s acclaimed creations for themselves. The restaurant’s culinary consultant, Michelin-starred Chef Nicolas Isnard, will also be in attendance to chat to guests about the exquisite flavours on offer.

To begin the meal, diners will enjoy a delicate dish of Alaskan crab with apple, coriander, coconut jelly and Caviar de Neuvic. Next, they’ll savour pigeon and beetroot with a gelatin spiral of mulberries and raspberries followed by a succulent main called Samurai Beef, a thin tart of Kobe beef adorned with mushrooms and cape gooseberries. To round out the experience, diners will then delight two delectable desserts that exhibit a unique blend of unexpected flavours and textures: honey caramelised durian layered between dark and white chocolate mousse followed by dark chocolate chili ganache paired with raspberries and jalapeños.

Known for his finely honed cooking techniques and elaborate plating, Chef Alex boasts an impressive background in French cuisine having worked for 15 years in Cannes’ prestigious Palace Hotel before opening his own restaurant, Le Manoir in the same city. Chef Alex joined X2 Chiang Mai Riverside Resort as part of the opening team in 2017, launching the contemporary Oxygen Dining Room in conjunction with consultant Michelin-starred chef, Nicolas Isnard. The stylish venue, right on the banks of Chiang Mai’s Mae Ping River, has quickly made a name for itself by fusing traditional Thai flavours with international culinary excellence.

The Iron Chef Exclusive Dinner on 19 May at Oxygen Dining Room features a five-course meal held from 18.00 – 22.00 hours and costs THB 2,500++ per person or THB 3,500++ per person with wine pairings.
