JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa In collaboration with Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation Released 40 Green Turtles In honour of H.M. King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun’s Birthday

Phuket, Thailand – 27 July 2019: Hundreds of well-wishers, Phuket residents, guests of JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, gathered at the hotel’s beachfront and released 40 green turtles in celebration of H .M. King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun’s Birthday (Rama X) together today. The sea turtles, which are seen as a symbol of long life ran, to live their new life in the Ocean.  Thai believed that releasing captive animals helps gain best luck and bring the prosperity to our life.

In this auspicious occasion, Mr. Matthias Y. Sutter, General Manager of JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa presided over the event and welcomed participants and guests of honour among; Mr. Phakaphong Tavipatana, Phuket Governor alongside with Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Deputy Director General of Department of Marine and Coastal Resources; Khun Kanokkrittika Kritwutthikorn, Director of TAT Phuket Office; Captain Pornprom Sakultem, Deputy Director of Operations Division, Third Naval Area Command; Mr. Natthawat Nuisrirama, Superintendent of Sirinart National Park; Dr. Kongkiat Kittiwattanawong, Director of Phuket Marine Biological Center

The sea turtles released at the 10th Mai Khao Marine Turtle Release Ceremony, turtles were hatched from eggs and collected by the Third Naval Area Command from Similan 1 Island and was nurtured and helped raise them before releasing by Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC) and Sea Turtles Conservation Center, Phang Nga Naval Base.

All monies raised through donations during the event, went towards supporting the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation and its partners: The Phuket Marine Biological Centre’s injured Turtle Rehabilitation Program and the Third Naval Area Command’s Turtle Hatchery Program.
