Interview with Deputy Hospital Director, Bangkok Hospital Phuket

Prevention rules
.
“ Our hospital knew about the Wuhan outbreak and growing death toll at the end of December/ early January.
.
As a leading hospital in one of the world’s foremost holiday destinations, we immediately established a framework of separate divisions to deal with the growing situation. We set up a Command Center with an appointed Chief to closely monitor and control the situation, meeting daily to prevent the spread of the virus in our hospital and so protecting our patients and staff.”
“We ensure there is no spread to the community through our thorough, fast and efficient screening and measurement system. By having only one entrance and exit, screening visitors through measuring body temperature, completing and keeping detailed profiles and timeline backgrounds and other measurements, we ensure people’s safety.”
.
“Our staff are trained to ensure everyone keeps their distance. At our cashier point, complete with messaging alarm, we make sure distances are maintained whilst people settle their bill and the payment system is geared
to minimise touching the counter and surfaces.

.
All surfaces are wiped with highly efficient antiseptic at regular intervals and immediately wiped after use for all seats.
.
Any patients with fever or respiratory infection are in separated clinics.
.
All patients are shielded and completely separated from any of those who are diagnosed with Covid-19.
.
The ICU is divided into two parts, separating regular intensive care patients from Covid-19 infected patients who are in a special section equipped with bespoke resources. A good ventilation system is installed with special air pressure and air-filter and every patient’s room has an individual air-conditioning system.
.
All medical staff, visitors and patients wear a mask at all times.
.
The hospital has plentiful PPE – enough to deal with all the various levels of requirement.
.
Patient visiting time is limited.
.
Covid-19 detection is done via two methods;

1: Real time PCR test of nasopharyngeal secretion, with results within 24 hours.

2: Our Contact Center also arranges fast track Covid-19 screening, without checking in at the Clinic, which takes ten minutes.

For people who wish to travel abroad, we provide a Covid-19 check up and medical certificate. Applicants receive a lung x-ray and Covid-19 screening via RT PCR methods which are provided at the Outpatient zone at the Wellness Center. Those who travel from other places within the country can stay overnight . A package is provided for THB 14,900 per person, including three daily meals. This is for two days and one night self-quarantine, while waiting for the certificate.

.
Our hospital has joined with the government’s campaign known as ‘Alternative Hospital Quarantine’ to receive foreign patients which covers 12 different types of conditions including heart, kidney, joint and bone, infertility treatment and all ‘non-spreader’ diseases with 14 days quarantine in the hospital”
.
