On Thursday 22^nd November 2018, Cherngtalay Municipality, in collaboration with Laguna Resorts & Hotels (PLC), hosted the 17^th annual Cherngtalay Loy Krathong Festival at Laguna Grove in Laguna Phuket, Asia’s premier destination resort.

Honorable guests; Mr. Anupong  Wawongmoon, Phuket Deputy Governor; Mr. Adul Choothong, Thalang District Chief; Mr. Sunirun Rachatapruk, Cherngtalay Mayor; Mr. Anthony Loh, Senior Assistant Vice President – Services, Laguna Phuket and Laguna Phuket management jointly started the ceremony and released handmade Krathong floats into the lagoon to pay respect to the water goddess “Pra Mae Khongkha” and the water spirits.

More than 3,500 villagers and tourists enjoyed various stage performances, activities and mini-street market areas at the Festival while observing the longstanding Thai tradition of Loy Krathong (meaning “float the basket”), a festival celebrated annually throughout Thailand.

Highlight of the festival is master Krathong centerpiece in the lagoon, Rak Thai Contest – a cultural appreciation competition for children, Krathong competitions, performances & exhibition of cultural crafts and arts, local foods, and mini concert by PaoPaowalee

Loy Krathong takes place every year on the evening of the full moon of the 12^th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar.   In the Western calendar this usually falls in November.
